SOIL HEALTH
Crop residue left on the soil surface protects the soil from the impact of rain drops, helps keep the soil intact, increases organic matter, and improves soil tilth.
Cover crops are used to protect the soil during the winter months by using a living cover on the field to reduce erosion, build organic matter and nutrients, and relieve soil compaction. Wheat, rye, clover, and vetch are examples of plants used for cover crops.
